4 Genius Tricks For Small Eyes

Naaila Khan

If you have small eyes, you’ll know that wearing any kind of eye makeup can sometimes feel like a bit of a challenge, especially because traditional favourites like the smokey eye or the cat eye only make your eyes look even smaller. There are, however, a few tweaks you can make to your everyday makeup routine to accentuate them, making them look wider; we experimented with Dia and were pretty stoked with the results!

1/4 PLACE THE SHADOW STRATEGICALLY

Instead of layering lots of colour on your eyelids, try a pale, pastel shadow over the entire lid – we used M.A.C Eyeshadow in Sushi Flower.

You can totally line your eyes if they’re small, but the key is to keep the line super thin – this adds definition and gives the illusion of wider eyes.

What We Used:

2/4 ADD A POP OF COLOUR

A bright colour – think turquoise, aqua and pink – really brings all the attention to your eyes, making them seem more prominent as a result. Here, we lined Dia’s bottom lash line with a shimmery green hue, stopping halfway through (right under her iris).

3/4 THE MAGIC SPOT

If you have close set eyes, the inner corners are your sweet spot; a white, shimmery highlighter placed right there will make them look like they’re set wider apart. Try extending it halfway along your lower lash line for a more pronounced effect.

What We Used:

4/4 MASCARA, MASCARA

There’s no better way to make your eyes look bigger than with several general coats of mascara, but you knew that already! A little trick that works especially well if you have small eyes is to apply your mascara is sweeping outward motions instead of upward, and focusing entirely on coating the centre and outer corners of your lashes, leaving the inner corner entirely untouched.
