What You Need To Know About Coloring Your Hair Rose Gold

Anushka Mulchandani

The color works for jewelry AND your hair!

I’ve always been a rose gold girl. Sure, plain gold is good and silver’s pretty great too. But that right mix of pink and gold is just so much prettier, don’t you think? So when I saw that people were going ahead and coloring their hair in the gorgeous shade, I was more than excited.

I’ve never been the person to do something majorly drastic with my locks, just a shorter cut and some ombré or balayage. But this rose gold trend is something I can definitely get on board with.

Before you get as excited as I am, I figured it was important to know what the process is like, what kind of hair it works on and even how much it costs.

I spoke to Aditi Vyas, the Style Director at BBlunt and here’s what she had to say.

How does a person go about getting rose gold hair? Take us through the process.

Since Indian hair is dark, getting the color is a two-step process. We start by pre-lightening the hair and then shampooing it with rose gold toner.

What kind of hair does it work on best?

It isn’t advisable to do on super dark hair because it sensitizes it. But if you have bits and pieces popping through, it could really look great! If you have slightly lighter hair, it’s totally doable.

Is there anything you need to do before you color your hair?

A few sittings on Olaplex are advisable to strengthen and prep your hair.

How long does the whole process take?

Since it’s a two-step process, it can take up to four hours depending on the density and length of your hair.

What hair products are recommended to take care of the color post the process?

Olaplex No. 3 is to be used once a week at least and just like you do when you normally get color, you need a color protectant shampoo and conditioner.

How often do you need to touch it up?

Ideally once a month, the color tends to fade with ten shampoos.

Are people open to getting it done in India?

It’s quite the rage globally and it’s definitely catching up here. People are just a bit shy to pre-lighten their locks.

How much does it cost?

Approximately Rs. 8000 – Rs. 10,000 depending on the thickness and length of your hair.
