Meet Glossier’s Latest Hit Product, The Crowdsourced Milky Jelly Cleanser

What’s the best way to make a winning product? Ask its users-to-be! That’s what cool girl skincare line Glossier did: editor Emily Weiss asked sister site Into The Gloss’s readers what their dream cleanser would look, smell and feel like, and what it would do – and the suggestions poured right in.

A few months later, Glossier’s Milky Jelly Cleanser was born and it is basically the best version of most women’s cleansing goals: a non-sudsy, paraben-free, deep cleaning formula. Apart from a powerful dirt dissolver, Glyceryl Cocoate, and moisturizing ingredients like comfrey root extract and Pro-Vitamin B5 that won’t leave your skin feeling stripped dry, it’s also made in part (one fourth, to be exact) with rosewater, which explains why it smells like roses. It’s also pH balanced, to boot.

But that’s hardly the best part of this gloopy winner. It also takes makeup like a champ, as I discovered when I used it to dissolve a face full of makeup (a day’s worth of mascara, concealer, BB cream, eye shadow and lipstick, to be precise). As I massaged two pumps of the stuff in, I saw my makeup literally melt off with the cleanser, exactly how a cleansing oil would do, except – there was a brief moment when I felt the cleanser seeping into my eyes and guess what? No stinging. Nada. Zilch. Just to make sure, I bravely worked a dot of the cleanser into my eye, all in the name of beauty research, and still nothing. Apparently, a strong yet mild cleansing agent called Poloxamer that’s usually used in contact lens solution is the secret.

How does it stack up post wash? My skin feels clean and velvety soft, so much so that I sometimes don’t feel the need to moisturize after a wash, which is why while it’s great for all skin types, it’s perfect for those with hypersensitive skin.

A 2-in-1 cleanser that cleanses and melts makeup in one step? Take a bow, Glossier.
