The theme called for bold, extravagant and clothes you and I would never imagine trying on!
The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Benefit raises its head on the first Monday of May, every year since 1946. So you can imagine what a big deal it is. Often known as the Oscars of New York, as far as the red carpet goes, people (read: celebrities) go out of their way to make an impression.
There’s a theme every year and for 2017, it’ was Commes des Garçons’ Rei Kawabuko. Which means pretty much all the outfits were more ‘out there’ and extravagant than you can imagine.
Of course we spotted a few of those done-to-death naked dresses, and a handful of pieces you could actually imagine wearing. But as far as the theme goes, most celebrities went bolder than normal and tried things they’ve never done before.
Here are some of the outfits you absolutely can’t miss out on.
The Women Who Ditched Their Dresses
Going to a red carpet event sans a ball gown seems wrong. But that’s exactly what makes it feel so, so right! Cara Delevingne and Bella Hadid led the no-skirt squad in Chanel and Alexander Wang and you’ve got to admit, they’re the sexiest and most comfortable of the lot!
Bollywood’s Favorite Fashionistas
Did anyone else know Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone were both going to be attending the Met Gala? While Priyanka picked a fierce trench style Ralph Lauren gown, Deepika’s Tommy Hilfiger number didn’t quite hit the spot, until we saw the back that is!
The Outfits We Can’t Imagine Trying
Rihanna and Tracee Ellis Ross in Commes des Garçons, Rita Ora in Marchesa and Gigi Hadid in Tommy Hillfiger were some of the women who dared to be different on the Met steps and whether people approved or not, they couldn’t give a damn!
Those Naked Dresses
If we sat and listed all the naked dresses we spotted, this post would never end. So we’re going to pick our favorites and of course it starts with Kendall Jenner in La Perla (because it doesn’t get sexier than that!). Close on her heels was her sister, Kylie Jenner in Versace, Chrissy Teigen in Marchesa and Lala Anthony in Thai Nguyen.
Celebrities Who Looked Like Real Life Princesses
As far as gowns go, these could feature in their own Disney movies. We’re talking about Miranda Kerr in Oscar de la Renta, Jennifer Lopez in Maison Valentino, Selena Gomez in Coach, Janelle Monae in Ralph & Russo and Kate Hudson in Stella McCartney.
Celebrities Who Deserve Special Mentions
Now these outfits were en fuego! We want to wear them, sleep with them, love them and marry them if possible. Starting with Blake Lively in Versace, Gisele Bundchen in Stella McCartney, Lily Aldridge in Ralph Lauren and Reese Witherspoon in Mugler!
