The Modern Way To Do A Daytime Red Lip

You’ve heard it before, and you’ll hear it again in a second – when it comes to skin, it’s still all about the glowy, dewy, it’s-humid-but-I-don’t-hate-it look – or, as M.A.C’s Global Senior Artist Sonic Sarwate likes to call it, ‘back from the gym skin.’

“When you’re focusing on bare, glowing skin, it changes how you wear makeup, even if it’s a red lip,” he told us during a recent reveal of M.A.C’s new Spring / Summer 2016 range, which features plenty of shimmery highlighters and eyeshadows, creamy red lipsticks and the gorgeous new Retro Matte lip range (more on that here).

“This isn’t your grandmother’s red lip – it’s not about being super defined but more about just applying it straight from the tube and heading out the door. It’s an easier, more modern way to wear the red lip.”

We were thinking about what he said when we had model Andreza over to our office the other day, straight off the plane from Sau Paulo. And so we decided to play around with just this - dewy, highlighted skin courtesy a bit of strategically placed lip balm on the cheekbones and an undefined red lip, the kind you can swipe on and forget about.

Keeping in mind the whole non-grandma appeal, we used no shadow or liner on the eyes, adding just a bit of mascara to define Andreza’s lashes. The whole thing took about 10 minutes to put together, and we’re sure you’ll agree – there’s never been a more laidback way to wear red lipstick.
